What pink noise is

White noise gives every pitch the same energy, so its high hiss stands out; pink noise turns the higher pitches down step by step, so it sounds deeper and less sharp. This is a clean pink noise file generated in Audacity, with no music, voices or anything else in it. We softened the very top slightly as well.

Keep it soft: a sound machine is meant to sit in the background, not compete with you. If you want it deeper still, brown noise is the deepest of the three, and fan noise adds a low motor hum.

Set the timer for 30, 60 or 90 minutes and it fades out by itself.

Good to know

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no sign-up, no ads in the player. The file plays from this site, so nothing hands you off to YouTube.

Does it really loop all night?

It loops a 4-minute track with a soft crossfade where the end meets the start, so it keeps going until you pause it or the timer runs out. Your browser and device have to stay awake and the tab has to stay open.

Is this white noise?

Not exactly. It’s pink noise, a close cousin of white noise with less treble. It plays the same role, a steady sound in the background, just softer.
