Sound: Ocean waves, binaural by L.Finck on Freesound (CC0). Trimmed to a 3-minute loop, highs softened slightly, loudest waves evened out, and level-matched.

What you’re hearing

A real field recording of ocean waves on a beach. Each wave rolls in, breaks and washes back over the sand, with a full, low wash of water between them. We softened the highs slightly and gently evened out the biggest breaks.

Unlike steady noise, waves rise and fall. If you like a sound that moves a little, this is a good one to settle into. If any change in volume keeps you alert, steady rain or fan noise may suit you better.

Wearing headphones? It was recorded binaurally, a method made to sound most natural on headphones.

Good to know

Is it free?

Yes. No account, no sign-up, no ads in the player. The file plays from this site, so nothing hands you off to YouTube.

Does it really loop all night?

It loops a 3-minute recording with a soft crossfade where the end meets the start, so it keeps going until you pause it or the timer runs out. Your browser and device have to stay awake and the tab has to stay open.

Will some waves be louder?

A little. Waves rise and fall, so some breaks are bigger than others. We gently evened out the loudest ones and level-matched this loop to the other sounds on the site.
